Police were looking for a man described as a person of interest in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old, who police said stumbled over to officers for help in South Richmond Hill Sunday.

The victim, identified by the NYPD as 21-year-old Stephen James, died Monday, police said.

James, of South Richmond Hill, was holding his stomach when he approached officers at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and 123rd Street, police said.

He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where doctors initially listed him in stable condition with a non-life threatening injury, but cops said his condition worsened and he died the following day.

Police released surveillance video Tuesday of a man they said is a person of interest in the stabbing and said the incident was now considered a homicide.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging on to the Crime Stoppers website at nypdcrimestoppers.com.
