City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined dozens of members of Transport Workers Union Local 100 outside the Steinway Street station in Astoria last Thursday, June 6, to call on the MTA to reopen closed station booths and restore station agents throughout the subway system. As noted, the cutbacks were undertaken in 2010, with over 100 token booths eliminated. According to Van Bramer, the closed booths have reduced the safety and security of subway riders while also hindering the ability of accessing the system. Also shown with Van Bramer are State Sen. Jose Peralta and City Council Member Peter Vallone Jr.
