Broken rails were not limited to the New York City subway system this week.
The Long Island Rail Road discovered a broken rail at the Flushing/Main Street Station Wednesday morning, the MTA said.
The repair work caused delays of about 10 to 15 minutes in both directions on the Port Washington branch.
On the 8:32 a.m. eastbound train at the Woodside station, the conductor announced MTA personnel were investigating a broken rail at the Flushing station and trains on the Port Washington line would have to share a single track as they carried commuters eastbound and westbound.
The train was held for about 10 minutes and then moved on to the Flushing station and beyond.
But as the morning commute continued, trains leaving the Woodside station experienced longer delays. The 9:02 a.m. eastbound train departed Woodside nearly 30 minutes late.
