Local veterans bid a proper farewell to a Bronx veteran who died without a next of kin during a ceremony at George Werst Funeral Home in Glendale last Wednesday, July 23. The Queens County Committee of the American Legion held the service for Levi T. Holmes, a Vietnam War veteran who served in the U.S. Army and died at his home in January of this year. Following the memorial service, local veterans rode out to Calverton National Cemetery in Suffolk County, where Holmes was interred. Veterans are pictured along with State Sen. Joseph Addabbo and Assemblyman Mike Miller saluting Holmes as his casket is loaded into a hearse.
