Rider Loses Life After Skidding On Street
A Corona motorcyclist died early on Sunday morning, Sept. 28, after losing control of his ride and crashing into another motorcycle stopped at a Glendale intersection, police reported.
Law enforcement sources identified him as 38-year-old David Malave of Saultell Avenue.
Reportedly, the accident occurred at about 4:13 a.m. Sunday morning at the corner of Cypress Avenue and Cypress Hills Street, near the Jackie Robinson Parkway.
According to information obtained by police, Malave was operating his motorcycle eastbound on Cypress Avenue approaching the intersection when his ride struck the curb.
The collision reportedly caused the motorcycle to skid on pavement before crashing into the rear of the second vehicle as it waited at a red light.
Officers from the 104th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Malave, who suffered body trauma, died a short time later after paramedics brought him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
Police said the operator of the other motorcycle, a 43-year-old male, was taken into custody at the scene. Following questioning, he was released without charges, sources stated.
An inquiry by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing, authorities noted.
