A group of pet owners got together earlier this month to improve the dog run at Little Bay Park with new gravel.

Volunteers used wheelbarrows, shovels and rakes to move 8 cubic yards of new gravel into the park. Dog lovers say that before the improvements, the fenced-in area had been worn away and rocks protruded from the surface of the ground.

“Man’s best friend can now enjoy their visits without having a ‘ruff’ time,” said regular user Warren Berndt.

According to Berndt, the Little Bay Park Dog Run also received minor improvements in June with the installment of a shade canopy, a project that was accomplished with the help of Northeast Queens Parks Administrator Matt Symons.

The Little Bay Dog Run is located on the north side of the Cross Island and Utopia Parkways. It has two separate fenced-off areas for large and small dogs.
