Sacred Heart Parish in Glendale was able to help feed dozens of people on Thanksgiving thanks to the generosity of the people of the parish and state Senator Joseph Addabbo.
Last month, Addabbo’s Middle Village office teamed up with Sacred Heart to host a food drive in an effort to collect nonperishable food donations, as well as toiletries such as napkins and storage bags, that were used to serve Thanksgiving dinner to families that may not have been able to afford one otherwise. Now, Sacred Heart and the politician are continuing the drive to bring food to the needy throughout the year.
“It’s easy to understand why people may need help getting through the holidays and the big feasts that typically go along with them, but unfortunately for too many families, their food shortage does not end when the holiday season does,” Addabbo said. “Many people in our community need help finding food all year long, and it’s important that we remember to help out even when it is least expected. Food drives such as this one mean so much to the families they benefit, and I am proud to have the hardworking people of the Sacred Heart parish in my district to help pay it forward each and every day. I thank the church for their continued dedication to this cause and look forward to working with them in the future.”
In order to encourage more food donations throughout the year, Addabbo plans to partner with Sacred Heart once again after the start of the new year to host a Valentine’s Day food drive that will help the church’s food pantry recover from its busy holiday season.
To donate items to Sacred Heart’s current food drive through Christmas, drop off items at Addabbo’s Middle Village office, located at 66-85 73rd Pl., during normal business hours. Items in need include canned goods, boxed goods, rice, soup and pasta.
