Deputy Inspector Brian Hennessy, the commanding officer of the 115th Precinct, crossed the bridge to the Bronx last week in becoming the new commander of the 40th Precinct in Mott Haven.

Hennessy joined the 115th Precinct in November 2014 after leading the 108th Precinct for 1 1/2 years. During his tenure, he enacted Neighborhood Friday, where volunteers from the precinct and community would address quality-of-life issues such as graffiti and abandoned cars left on the streets.

“Thank you all for the farewell wishes!” Hennessy said in a Twitter post on June 22. “It was a pleasure serving the community.”

In 2015, the 115th Precinct, which covers Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst and North Corona, only saw one murder, the lowest number on record for the precinct since the NYPD started collecting crime stats in 1993. There have been no murders in 2016.

According to NYPD crime stats, there has been a rise in robberies, felony assaults and grand larcenies from June 19 of last year. Rapes and auto thefts have remained flat. Burglaries have decreased from 112 last June to 98 during the same time this year.

Hennessy was replaced by Deputy Inspector Michele Irizarry, who was the commanding officer of the 10th Precinct in Chelsea.
