A car parked in front in front of the polling station at PS/IS 49 had a sign in the windshield saying, “Thou shall not kill…unborn children.” Donald Trump flags hung outside several homes in the neighborhood along the Maspeth-Middle Village border.
“I noticed that when I moved here four years ago from Jackson Heights,” Precinct Coordinator Rosalina Salvatierra said. “They’re much more conservative here but also very much civic-minded.”
Nearly 3,000 had voted by 4 p.m.
“Some were ticked off at the slow pace earlier when we had two machine jams,” Salvatierra said. “It kind of makes you miss the old machines, but I guess we have to keep up with technology.”
She added the ballots that got jammed had already been counted so no votes were lost.
