Commuters got some good news and some bad news from the MTA on Wednesday afternoon.
The MTA board voted to keep the base fare at $2.75, according to NY1. While the base fare will stay the same, straphangers who use the 30-day unlimited MetroCard will see the price increase to $121. The 7-day unlimited MetroCard price will increase to $32.
For months, the MTA has been considering two different proposals regarding the fares for subways and buses. The first proposal sought to keep base fare at $2.75 and reduce bonus from 11 percent to 5 percent. The second proposal looked to raise base fare to $3 and put in place a 16 percent bonus for multiple rides on MetroCard. The MTA board decided to go with the former.
The fare increases will start on March 19.
