Bayside man shot to death in Flushing

FLUSHING — Police were investigating the shooting death of a 39-year-old Bayside resident in Flushing.

According to police, on Wednesday at 12:02, a.m. Fernando Gonzalez-Chavez was found unconscious, unresponsive and with a gunshot wound to the face in front of 40-38 162 St. Gonzalez-Chavez was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

According to his Facebook page, Gonzalez-Chavez was born in El Salvador and appeared to work in construction. He was also a huge fan of the FC Barcelona soccer team. Gonzalez-Chavez attended Flushing High school and celebrated his 39th birthday March 2.

There have been no arrest and investigations are ongoing.
