Mayor Bill de Blasio and his senior staff will run the city from the Queens Borough Hall starting July 17 as part of the “City Hall in Your Borough” initiative.
Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and de Blasio announced the news on Monday, making this the third stop in de Blasio’s initiative to immerse him and his staff in each borough for a week. The first two to participate were Staten Island and the Bronx.
In an effort to focus on the Queens community, de Blasio, along with his deputy mayors and senior administration officials, will hold a cabinet meeting, resource fair and town hall. Various stops and events throughout Queens will also take place during his stay.
“As we move City Hall from borough to borough, we hope to continue building a closer relationship between New Yorkers and their city government,” de Blasio said. “In Queens, we will continue focusing city resources on the borough’s most pressing needs.”
Katz said there will be a lot to do during the mayor’s visit.
“Queens welcomes the administration to Borough Hall and the opportunity to engage on the needs and challenges unique to the World’s Borough,” Katz said. “With 2.3 million residents, there will be much ground to cover for the families of Queens.”
In addition, the First Lady Chirlane McCray will hold a series of events that are yet to be announced.
