A 5-year-old Corona boy was found by police with severe trauma to his body on Sunday after he had fallen outside of a third-floor window.

According to police, officers from the 115th Precinct responded to a 911 call at a home on 99th Street near 37th Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. on Sept 10. Upon arriving, police found 5-year-old William Chen unconscious and unresponsive in his home.

Chen was being watched by his grandparents at the home, which was under construction. He was using the bathroom on the third floor and struggled to open the door. The bathroom lock was faulty, police said, so the 5-year-old attempted to escape the room through the third-floor window.

Chen was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens, where he was pronounced dead. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
