Police are investigating the death of a motorcyclist who lost control of his ride and crashed on the Grand Central Parkway in Corona over the weekend.
At around 5 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, police responded to a 911 call of a vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on the westbound Grand Central Parkway near exit 9. Upon their arrival, they found a 25-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive on the side of the road.
EMS responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead. His identity was withheld pending family notification.
According to an investigation by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad, the victim was riding his 2016 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on the Grand Central Parkway when he lost control and struck a guardrail; the impact ejected him from the motorcycle, which continued into the roadway and was struck by a 2011 Nissan SUV operated by a 59-year-old woman.
Debris and sparks from the ensuing crash then struck a 2009 Lincoln sedan operated by a 50-year-old female immediately behind the SUV, which then caused that car to catch fire. Both cars were found on the side of the road.
EMS transported the 59-year-old woman to NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries to her neck and back.
No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
