One cannot practice law, medicine or dentistry without passing a written test. One cannot procure a driver’s license without passing a written test. Unfortunately, our founding fathers failed to require one seeking the office of President of the United States to pass a written test that confirms knowledge of our Constitution.
The First Amendment prohibits Congress from making any law “abridging freedom of speech.” In urging NFL owners to fire players who do not stand for the national anthem, a right they possess under Amendment 1, President Donald Trump suggests he may well have never read the Constitution, or fails to understand it. Passing a required Constitutional test would have spared us this debacle of a presidency.
