Detectives apprehended a Brooklyn man on Jan. 10 allegedly connected to an Ozone Park robbery attempt last year that ended with a deadly shooting.

Dwayne Ling, 55, of Albany Avenue faces murder, robbery, assault and weapons possession charges for his role in the Oct. 23 murder of Hani Kasem, 64.

Kasem and his son were inside their store at the corner of 101st Avenue and 99th Street at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 23 when several perpetrators — described as black men wearing suits — entered the establishment.

According to police, one of the crooks pistol-whipped Kasem and shot him in the head; the suspects also pistol-whipped the victim’s son. Following the assault, they fled the scene inside of a four-door vehicle.

Officers from the 102nd Precinct and EMS units responded to a 911 call about the shooting. Paramedics found Kasem in cardiac arrest; he was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he died four days later. Kasem’s son suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police sources did not provide specific information about Ling’s alleged involvement in the deadly robbery. He was taken into custody on Wednesday night as a result of the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, the NYPD is still looking for two other suspects wanted for questioning in connection with the murder: Lamonte Haynes, 32, and Frederick McCoy, 52. Their last known residence is at the same Albany Avenue address in Brooklyn where Ling resides.

Anyone with information regarding the murder or the suspects’ whereabouts can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA), visit their website or send a text message to 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
