A 79-year-old man died of his injuries a day after being struck by a car in Kew Gardens Hills, police reported.

At 9:57 p.m. on May 7, law enforcement sources said, officers from the 107th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian struck on Jewel Avenue near 150th Street. Upon their arrival, officers found 79-year-old Abdul Jamil lying on the roadway with severe head trauma.

Based on a preliminary investigation that the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad conducted, cops determined that a 31-year-old man was driving eastbound on Jewel Avenue in a 2015 Honda Accord.

Police said that, as the driver was moving across 150th Street with the traffic signal in his favor, Jamil began to cross Jewel Avenue outside the marked crosswalk and against the pedestrian signal. Jamil was then struck by the vehicle and knocked to the pavement.

The driver remained on the scene following the incident.

EMS responded to the scene and transported Jamil to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens hospital, where he died on May 8.

No charges have been filed against the driver. The investigation is ongoing.
