More than 600 students in kindergarten through fifth grade in Long Island City and Forest Hills will receive an UNTUCKit shirt this holiday season as part of The New York Pops’ PopsEd program.

Two schools — PS 171 in Long Island City and PS 303 in Forest Hills — are participating “PopsEd” schools. PopsEd is a music education program run by The New York Pops, a professional symphonic orchestra.

PopsEd uses tools like composition, lyric writing, performance and mentorship to foster learning and creativity. PopsEd runs a choral music program for approximately 400 students from kindergarten through fourth grade at PS 171. It also hosts a musical theater program at PS 303 in Forest Hills, where nearly 200 students from kindergarten through fifth grade receive weekly instruction.

PopsEd “Teaching Artist” Kevin Winebold facilitated the Nov. 29 distribution of UNTUCKit dress shirts to PS 171 students. The PS 303 distribution was scheduled to take place Dec. 4.

UNTUCKit shirts are button-down dress shirts that are meant to be worn untucked. They can be found at untuckit.com.
