Cops are looking for a suspect who took an MTA bus from Jamaica on a joy ride through Queens and Brooklyn early Tuesday morning.
According to police, at 5 a.m. on Jan. 15, an MTA employee reported that a bus was missing near 165th Street and South Road in Jamaica. Reports indicate that the bus had been taken at around 3 a.m. that morning.
The bus was recovered by another MTA employee at 6:04 a.m. at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and Conduit Boulevard in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. There was no damage to the bus and no one was reported injured.
No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
The MTA is working to strengthen their security measures, including deploying additional security personnel, adding more depot inspections and upgrading security systems on the buses themselves, in the wake of recent incidents regarding stolen buses.
“We strengthened our security practices and procedures immediately after the first stolen bus last month, and are working on enhancing the security features of buses themselves, including upgrading GPS capability to alert officials of any unauthorized use. These incidents are under police investigation and we are working closely with police.” said a representative of the MTA.
