A Flushing man is being charged for his alleged involvement in the death of his ex-girlfriend Valerie Reyes, the New Rochelle resident who was found dead in a suitcase in Greenwich, Connecticut, last week.
On Feb. 11, New Rochelle police arrested 24-year-old Javier Da Silva, who is currently facing federal charges in the court of the Southern District of New York.
Da Silva confessed to the crime when he was caught fraudulently using Reyes’ ATM card according to a press release by the Greenwich Police Department.
A week prior to Da Silva’s arrest, Greenwich workers discovered Reyes’ fully clothed body stuffed into a red suitcase on Feb. 5. According to police sources, Reyes’ hands and feet were bound when they found her on the side of Glenville Road.
Reyes was reported missing on Jan. 30 after she did not show up for her job at Barnes and Noble in Eastchester.
Multiple reports said that Da Silva is originally from Venezuela and was illegally living in the United States after he had overstayed his visa.
QNS reached out to the Southern District of New York who said that da Silva’s court appearance is currently happening. His charges have not yet been confirmed.
