Several Bayside residents woke up Sunday morning, Aug. 7, and found that their tires had been slashed.
A man was caught on security cameras around 4 a.m. slashing the tires of several cars along 42nd Avenue and Corporal Kennedy Street. The man ended up slashing the tires of more than 40 cars.
Officers from the 111th Precinct responded to calls from residents in the area at approximately 7:25 a.m. No arrests have been made yet and the precinct is asking the public for help in identifying the suspect as the investigation continues.
“I had all four of my tires slashed,” Bayside resident Doris Rubinic said. “It ended up costing me about $661 to get new tires.”
According to Rubinic, she believes she has seen the suspect walking around the neighborhood before while walking her dog down 42nd Avenue. However, she doesn’t know the identity of the suspect.
Some residents have expressed concern that even if the suspect is caught, he could be released on bail shortly after. This would lead some to worry about the suspect causing more damage since he would be back on the streets.
The suspect is currently wanted on charges of criminal mischief.
