Police from the 108th Precinct in Long Island City and Transit District 20 are looking for a man who allegedly stole a cellphone from a 7 train rider in Woodside in broad daylight on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 14.

The suspect followed the 26-year-old woman as she left a store in the vicinity of 61st Street and Roosevelt Avenue and waited on the 7 train platform in the 61st Street-Woodside transit hub.

The NYPD on Aug. 23 released surveillance video that shows the suspect lurking behind the victim as she sat on a bench waiting for a Manhattan-bound train.

The suspect suddenly grabbed her cellphone and ran off. The victim briefly gave chase, but the perpetrator got away and ran from the station in an unknown direction, police said.

The victim did not sustain any injuries as a result of the incident, according to an NYPD spokesperson, who added that her cellphone held a prepaid MetroCard as well as a debit card.

The suspect has a medium complexion and was wearing a dark blue T-shirt with Blessed King in white lettering across the chest.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
