A family-friendly puppet show is debuting at Flushing Town Hall on Feb. 17. about the power of kindness in recognition of Valentine’s Day.

The show, performed by the Axis Theatre Company, will be based on a popular children’s book by American author Eileen Spinelli, telling the story of Mr. Hatch, who lives a boring and structured life until one day he receives a candy-filled heart with a note that says “Somebody loves you”.

“Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch” is aimed at children and follows the main character as he attempts to find out the identity of his secret admirer. The show is also about the importance of kindness.

Ellen Kodadek, executive and artistic director of Flushing Town Hall, said that Axis Theatre planned to bring this show to Flushing Town Hall in 2020, but it was rescheduled due to the pandemic, so she is looking forward to finally welcoming Axis Theatre to Flushing.

“The message of this absolutely lovely and adorable play is still as current as it was when the book was written more than 30 years ago, and we are thrilled to share the spirit of kindness with our family audiences,” she said.

The show begins at 2:15 p.m. and tickets cost $15 for adults and $8 for children. Before the show begins, Axis Theatre will host an introductory puppet workshop at 1 p.m., with tickets costing $5, where children can learn about the world of shadow puppetry and have the chance to create their own puppets.
