The New York Mets and New York Blood Center are partnering to host their annual winter blood drive on Wednesday, Jan. 15, in the Piazza Club at Citi Field.
Those who come to donate blood for this drive, running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., will receive vouchers redeemable for two tickets to select Mets home games in the 2025 season. Redeemable tickets are for any game from Monday through Thursday, other than Opening Day or the Subway Series.
Mr. and Mrs. Met will also be in attendance to greet fans from 12-1 p.m. Free parking will be available for the blood drive at Lots B and D, which can both be accessed by traveling to the intersection of Shea Road and Boat Basin Place and proceeding south towards Gate 8. Seaver Way will be closed due to ongoing offseason construction.
January marks National Blood Donor Month, which is meant to raise awareness on the importance of donating blood and recognize just how much of a lifesaving impact those who donate blood provide.
Holiday travel, seasonal illnesses and inclement weather frequently contribute heavily to making blood donations less of a priority during this time of year. In recent weeks, the New York Blood Center ha experienced a 40% reduction in donations, equating to over 3,000 fewer donations.
The Amazin’ Mets Foundation helped support the New York Blood Center’s mission in 2024 by providing them with a $150,000 grant for the purchase of equipment to be used at their new Queens Donor Center in Forest Hills.
