In both incidents the firefighters were doing what firefighters do everyday without a thought for their own safety. In the Bronx Lt. Curtis Meyran and Firefighter John Bellew, originally from Howard Beach, entered a burning building in the Morris Heights
Firefighters who died were born in Queens
Firefighter Richard Sclafani of Bay Terrace and Howard Beach native Lt. John Bellew died Sunday, while Flushing native Brendan Cawley hangs onto his life in a Bronx hospital.
