KEW GARDENS — A Far Rockaway woman arrested in connection with the triple shooting of a Cambria Heights family in June was scheduled to be arraigned on formal charges Friday, a spokeswoman for the Queens district attorney said.
Sandra Powell, 36 was arrested in November on charges relating to the deaths of Carren Chambers, 34; her husband, Larie Barnes, 40; and her sister Tisha Chambers, 21, but investigators were still looking for the person they believe shot the three victims, District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Although there were no signs of forced entry into the family’s Cambria Heights home, parts of the house were ransacked, suggesting the killers were looking for something specific, police said.
Duct tape marks on all three victims’ wrists indicated they had been bound by their attackers at some point. All three were killed by what appeared to be single gunshot wounds to their heads.
Powell told police she drove the getaway car, but was not suspected of having shot the family, a law enforcement source said.
CROWN HEIGHTS — A south Jamaica man was arrested last Thursday in connection with the robbery of a store at 1882 Atlantic Ave., police.
Howard Folk, 29, along with two men and a woman from Brooklyn and a Connecticut man, allegedly entered the store brandishing a loaded .40 caliber pistol and an imitation weapon, police said.
An investigation was continuing.
RICHMOND HILL — Firefighter Jorge Maldonado was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday at 5:26 a.m., police said.
Maldonado, a Richmond Hill resident from Company 214 in Brooklyn, was charged after being involved in an accident, police said. No one was injured in the collision.
QUEENS VILLAGE — An FDNY civilian employee was arrested in connection with a domestic incident Friday at 5 p.m., police said. Assistant engineer Leo Subbarao, 52, was charged with assault, police said.
RICHMOND HILL — A black male found his car covered in white paint on Metropolitan Avenue with derogatory, anti-black remarks etched into the hood and passenger side door about 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to police.
The car was located in his basement garage. An investigation was ongoing. No arrests were made, police said.
BROOKLYN — Wilfredo Ramos, 32, of Ridgewood was arrested on charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon Tuesday after allegedly being involved in an altercation that sent two victims to the hospital, one with severe head trauma, police said.
Ramos and five to seven other Hispanic men allegedly attacked a group of five white men at about 12:50 a.m. and made derogatory ethnic remarks as they were leaving a building on Knickerbocker Avenue, police said.
Police said weapons, including a bat and a knife, were used during the incident. Two other victims were sent to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition and one victim refused medical attention, police said.
ROCKAWAYS — Anti-black statements were discovered written in red on three walls in an apartment building on Shorefront Parkway in the Rockaways on Tuesday morning, police said.
No arrests were made and the investigation was continuing.
ASTORIA — A blue swastika was spray-painted into the sidewalk Friday at P.S. 84, 22-45 41st St., police said.
It was discovered at 9 a.m., police said. The incident is being investigated as a possible bias crime. The investigation was continuing, police said.
CORONA — Three Hispanic males were arrested and charged with robbery and assault after allegedly attacking a 20-year-old male in the bathroom of Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Tuesday morning, police said.
The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment, police said.
Three men, Angel Garcia, 26, Jesus Saul, 29, and Santiago Guroura, 24, were arrested in connection with the incident police said.
KEW GARDENS – Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced Wednesday that more than 30 people were indicted for allegedly defrauding insurance companies by staging car accidents, faking injuries and making false claims for property damage.
Among those named in the indictment were doctors Azriel Benaroya of Hollis Hills and Emma Benjamin of Forest Hills along with clinics Lane Medical in Forest Hills and 1st Modern Medical Care in Richmond Hill, the DA said.
The allegedly staged accidents took place in Ozone Park, South Ozone Park and other locations.
