An off-duty firefighter was arrested after traveling the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway and striking another car, causing injuries.
According to police, the firefighter, Jorge Alulema, 28, was traveling eastbound in the westbound (left) lane of the LIE when he struck the car of an off-duty police officer.
Alulema was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical but stable condition. The police officer suffered neck and back injuries and was also taken to Bellevue.
Subsequent to an investigation, Alulema was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, vehicular assault and operating a motor vehicle while impaired.
