How did you get into business?
“I lived close by and started here when I was 16 years old as a dishwasher and a bus boy,” John Fellin said, explaining how he worked his way up through the catering facility’s ranks. “I was promoted to general manager when I was 26 and became a partner in the biz when I was 29 years old.” About a decade later, Fellin became a full owner of Bruno’s on the Boulevard, which has been open since 1962.
What do you do?
As the owner, Fellin oversees day-to-day operations, but he also takes a more vested interest in his customers and staff. “I look at myself more as a team leader, leading my management and culinary team to provide the best possible food and service for my customers.”
What is special about your business?
With personalized service and a high attention to detail, Bruno’s on the Boulevard caters a variety of parties and events, including weddings, Sweet 15s and 16s, and business meetings and conferences. Because the facility does not have a restaurant attached, Bruno’s can focus entirely on the events held in their two completely private banquet halls - the Galaxy and Stardust rooms. Each room is outfitted with a bridal suite, and Bruno’s has an outdoor photography area complete with gazebo and waterfall for romantic photos.
For business meetings, the facility has wireless Internet capabilities and full audio and visual services are available. An added bonus is that Bruno’s on the Boulevard is conveniently located for patrons coming by car and mass transit. Situated about five minutes from the Triborough and Whitestone bridges, Bruno’s is accessible from the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, the Long Island Expressway, and the Grand Central Parkway, as well as LaGuardia International Airport. Four major bus lines stop within a few blocks of the catering facility, which is also within walking distance of the elevated train on Roosevelt Avenue.
What is your business motto?
Fellin said that at Bruno’s on the Boulevard, patrons will find “personalized service with affordable elegance.” In addition, the facility can cater to whatever specifications a customer can dream up.
