Skeleton found near tracks in Flushing
An unidentified Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) track worker discovered the skeletal remains of a human being on the Port Washington line recently.
The discovery came shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, as workers were clearing brush from the LIRR right-of-way, between the Broadway and Murray Hill stations in Flushing.
According to a LIRR source, “The bones were there for a long time. It did not appear that the person was hit by a train.”
Both New York City and Metropolitan Transit Authority Police spokespersons said the investigation was ongoing and referred inquiries to the city Medical Examiner’s office.
An informed source not directly involved in the investigation told The Queens Courier, “It appeared to be a male, and had been there for one to five years. Pending the Medical Examiner’s report, it’s being treated as a missing person case.”
