Cross Island Health and Fitness - Meet your goals

Whatever your fitness needs - from rehabilitation after an injury to getting back into shape - Cross Island Health and Fitness in Springfield Gardens can tailor a program to help you meet your goals.
The two-level facility features free weights as well as “selectorized” fitness equipment that allows users to isolate specific muscle groups. In addition, Cross Island Health and Fitness has two yoga studios and therapeutic treatments from eight board-certified physical therapists in six private rooms.
Director Jay Leitzsey, with 20 years in fitness instruction, said clients are motivated at Cross Island to make a commitment to themselves and to their health.
“The reality is that neither fitness nor health is going to come in a tablet,” said the former athletic champion. “Exercise is the fountain of youth.”
Fitness is a lifetime gift and is beneficial no matter what age you make the decision to start improving your physical well being, he added.
Cross Island has programs for both younger and older clients; classes for seniors promote better circulation, flexibility and strengthening.
Located at 219-10 South Conduit Avenue, the fitness facility offers a wide variety of incentives to achieve better health and fitness, from a Buddy Training program in which clients are partnered through the center and share in the cost of the program, to discounts offered through major insurance plans at Oxford and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
“A lot of people come in with a friend,” said Leitzsey, “then the other person drops out or doesn’t show. Our eight-week buddy system puts people together who have similar goals and they work together to motivate one another.”
The facility also offers the expertise of a team of personal trainers who can assess a client’s level of fitness and help create a program that will help the individual reach his or her goals.
“We try to keep it simple, keep it effective and keep it fun,” he said.
