Providing children with a safe, fun and creative environment for learning is the aim of The Crayon Box Preschool.
Preschool Director Virginia Lopez, a New York State certified teacher with 14 years in early childhood education, said the school’s primary focus is to give children a solid educational foundation they can carry with them throughout the school years.
“Preschool is the first place where children are exposed to a school setting,” said Lopez. “Preschool is a place where children should be excited about learning.”
Established 10 years ago, The Crayon Box Preschool can accommodate 50 children daily, ranging in age from two years and nine months to five years and 10 months. The preschool offers half-day, school day, full-day and extended-day programs to provide a wide range of possibilities for various family situations. Summer programs are available as well.
Lopez said the preschool is designed with the whole child in mind, focusing not only on academics, but on physical fitness and socialization as well. The program is arranged around enrichment centers that provide different mediums to engage children’s senses and allow for both free expression and guided learning.
Lopez, who comes from a large extended family, said that she has always enjoyed the group dynamic. While in school, she tutored and worked in after school programs. “I’ve always liked working with children,” she said.
Each of the three classrooms has a certified teacher as well as an assistant for individualized attention.
The preschool, located at 44-10 192nd Street in Flushing, features both an outdoor playground as well as a gymnasium.
