QHST, Forest Hills move on to ‘B’ semis

Top-seeded Forest Hills and No. 14 Queens High School of Teaching moved on to the PSAL Class B girls soccer semifinals Monday afternoon.
The Rangers, Queens B-IV regular season champions, edged No. 9 HS for Math, Science and Engineering behind junior Katherine Murillo’s goal in the third minute and five saves from keeper Beth Grupsmith. Forest Hills, who won the Kiwanis Cup this year, will meet No. 4 Lincoln on Thursday at Madison High School in Brooklyn with a berth in the city championship game up for grabs.
Queens HS of Teaching, meanwhile, dispatched No. 11 Beach Channel, 3-2, as Alyssa Faller, Anastasia Akoumianakis, and Amanda Viteri scored goals. The Tigers, who will meet No. 2 Leon Goldstein on Thursday, have rounded into form since the return of Faller late in the year. The talented senior, already accepted at Loyola (MD), who scored 32 goals as a junior, was nursing injuries for much of the year, but has netted 12 in just seven games since her return.
“Once she came back we got to a different level,” Coach Patrick Kehoe said. “She changes everything. It just makes everyone stronger, everyone more confident.”
