Sometimes change is good and Adventureland, the 47-year-old theme park in Farmingdale, has made a number of them to entertain their customers this summer.
They are offering a new ride, installing new equipment, giving out more prizes and they even have performances and contests to keep things lively.
“We did a lot of internal expansions in the park for this summer,” said Steven Gentile, Adventureland manager.
For kids, the park offers a new kiddy ride called The Flying Puppies. Parents can watch their children circle around in the air on a flying puppy, while the child controls the rise and descent of the ride.
“It’s a very colorful and attractive ride,” said Gentile.
For the parents, the Lady Bug Rollercoaster has a new camera system installed to give parents more selection of pictures to purchase of their children on the ride.
New games were also installed into the arcade. The new games include Deal or No Deal, Big Bass Wheel and two new state-of-the-art hockey games.
“There is a lot of concentration and effort put into the arcade,” said Gentile. “It’s all state-of-the-art equipment.”
Along with more games, there are more things to win in the arcade. The prizes now include an assortment of new items like plasma TVs, dDesigner handbags, and athletic jerseys.
There are other chances for customers to win prizes at Adventureland.
Every Saturday evening there is a karaoke contest sponsored by SS Entertainment. The winner gets a free family pack for Adventureland.
On June 26, Adventureland will have a Guitar Hero contest sponsored by The Long Island Radio Group. The winner gets four tickets to Hershey Park.
Live entertainment is scheduled throughout the summer. Joan Hampson and Jac & Kill are scheduled to perform. Eighties era tribute band White Wedding and Beatles tribute band Liverpool Shuffle will also be performing at Adventureland.
They also have magician and comedian Jim McClenahan performing every other Sunday. Face painting and temporary tattoo areas have been brought back by popular demand.
Also, Gentile said he found people in a group sometimes wanted a private space for themselves in the park so they created a VIP room. The space holds up to 120 people and could be used for special events room like family functions and employee parties.
Both the food area and gift shops have also been expanded. The food court has more seating and larger food selection from which to choose. The gift shops have more things to buy including nostalgic sugar threats like fresh homemade fudge.
“Adventureland has been here [since] 1962, providing family memories for over 47 years. It’s a place you can share with a reasonable prize,” said Gentile.
Entrance and parking is free at Adventureland. Customers only pay for the rides. You can purchase a “Pay One Price” pass for the day. For people who are 48” or taller, it’s $24.99. For people under 48”, the cost is $20.99.
