Touro College has right teaching program for you

If you are an educator looking to expand your teaching options or someone looking to teaching for a change in careers, then Touro College has a program that can help you realize your potential and expand your horizons as a teacher.

Touro College’s Graduate School of Education offers teachers the opportunity to increase the number of their certifications and work in additional grades. This allows them to work with various student populations, such as students with disabilities, thereby expanding career options, which is something of real importance in today’s economy.

Touro also offers graduate students the ability to earn an annotation in teaching students with severe or multiple disabilities as well as gifted and talented students. These teaching areas are in need of qualified, certified teachers, and Touro has the experienced faculty to prepare teachers for these specialized positions.

Touro’s education and special education programs are available at any one of five school locations. With campuses in Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Bay Shore, Touro is accessible to prospective students in the NY metropolitan area.

Many prospective students are people with full time jobs who are thinking about changing their careers. Touro’s Graduate School of Education is tailored for those who currently work full time. Classes are offered in the late afternoon/evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Sundays, both in the morning and the afternoon. All classes in the education and special education programs are also offered online.

According to the New York State Education Department (NYSED), there is a shortage of math teachers in the New York City area, and Touro wants to help fill that void. NYSED has recently approved Touro’s new Masters of Science in Math Education. This program is designed not only for those graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in education, but also for career changers and current teachers wishing to earn certification in Teaching Mathematics.

In addition, Touro’s Graduate School of Education offers programs in school leadership, literacy, teaching English to students of other languages (TESOL) and instructional technology.

Student-centered since its inception, Touro College’s Graduate School of Education aims to provide New York’s children with new and experienced teachers who are qualified in the areas of their certifications.
