Silver Star Mercedes-Benz, located in Long Island City, is “Going Green” – and saving some green too.
The dealership has just completed the installation of a solar electricity system designed to supplement conventional electric power produced by the grid system.
“The system will produce about 20 percent of the power needed to run the dealership and will cut peak summer demand, which is very costly” said Michael Cohen, owner. “We are proud to be on the leading edge of businesses utilizing this exciting technology. Going green is important, but it was the great financial benefits which were the driver of the project.”
Cohen explained that the price of the installed system, by Sunergy Power, was over $1 million. “But once we understood and leveraged all available incentives, we were able to reduce this cost by $847,000,” he said. “Installation of the system just made tremendous financial sense.”
He continued, “With the system warranted to produce power for over 25 years and yield a 32 percent return on our investment, this project was a no brainer.”
