Queensborough Community College (QCC) President Eduardo Martí is likely leaving his position at the Bayside school, but he won’t be leaving the City University of New York (CUNY) altogether.
Martí, who has been the President at QCC for the past 10 years, is expected to take a higher position within CUNY where he will “play a leading role in CUNY’s plans to give greater prominence to its community colleges,” according to a university source.
The official announcement will likely come after a June 28 CUNY Board of Trustees meeting where personnel matters are scheduled for a vote.
Prior to coming to Queensborough Community College in 2000, Martí served as the President of SUNY’s Corning Community College and as President of Tompkins-Cortland Community College.
At QCC’s commencement ceremony on Friday, June 4, State Senator Toby Stavisky, who chairs the Senate’s Higher Education Committee, presented Martí with a Senate resolution honoring his leadership at the school.
“President Martí came to Queensborough with plans to transform it into one of the premier institutions of higher education in New York,” Stavisky said. “He has far surpassed his goals transforming Queensborough into the jewel of the CUNY Community College family, and the higher education community owes him a deep debt of gratitude.”
