Restaurant week begins with a bang

Discover Queens Restaurant Week, which started on September 20 and runs until September 30, has been well received by patrons thanks to the buzz created by a $25 fixed menu and great online buzz.

“We have been getting good feedback,” said Michelle Stoddart, director of marketing and tourism at the Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC). “Our staff has enjoyed Vetro in Howard Beach, Q Thai Bistro in Forest Hills and Tuscan Hills restaurant. I’ve seen restaurants talking about [Restaurant Week] on their Facebook pages. There seems to be lots of excitement.”

Liz Vineo – manager of Donovan’s of Bayside – has already served bundles of customers looking to take advantage of their price fixed menu.

“We have crab cakes, fried calamari, baked ravioli, mahi-mahi, orange and dill salmon, any Donovan’s burger, roasted scallops and for desert we have brownie with ice cream, Irish cream cake, bread pudding . . . appetizer, entrée and dessert all for $25,” said Vineo.

Astoria’s Time Café, which serves Italian-American cuisine, has fixed their menu for many dishes, including their special sautéed portobello mushrooms served with polenta, Atlantic grilled salmon and their fabulous homemade crepes with ice cream as a dessert. Co-owner Walter Morovic is optimistic about serving more patrons during Restaurant Week.

“It’s never enough customers,” said Morovic. “We want to fill our seats.”
