BORO-WIDE – Councilmember and Chair of the Environmental Protection Committee James F. Gennaro recently announced the adoption of new rules to help preserve and protect the 282 community gardens under the jurisdiction of the city’s Park’s Department. Some of the key changes include preserving active gardens as long as they are registered and licensed by the Parks Department and new gardens may be created under the same protections as existing gardens.
“We want to thank the Administration, the NYC Community Garden Coalition, and all of the gardeners and advocates who worked so hard on this issue. Together, we were able to come up with a stronger set of rules – one that will preserve and protect community gardens in good standing,” said Gennaro.
