With everything from beachwear for the summer to jewelry any woman will love, the BK Festival (BKF) offers something for everyone looking for great products at irresistible prices.
“I think it’s going to be a huge success,” said co-owner Tommy Walker, who works alongside partner Tommy Brady. “We’re learning and trying to adapt as quickly as possible and we have lots to offer.”
The grand opening on Saturday, May 21 attracted multitudes of attendees including various politicians such as Mayor Michael Bloomberg. In addition to vendors selling items for all interests, Walker said there is so much more to BKF than it being a “flea market.”
“We’re not calling it a flea market because there’s lots of interactive things,” Walker said. “Pony rides, a petting zoo, clown, bouncy rides, and lots of things that would coincide with the Coney Island atmosphere.”
New items such as paintings, homemade jewelry, clothes, sunglasses, and “anything you can find in a department store” will be sold at BKF, with a special guarantee offered to customers.
“If they buy something and the vendor doesn’t take care of it, we’ll change it for them – that’s the guarantee of the BK Festival.”
Walker, who has 33 years of experience in the industry, added that they plan on “being very festive” year round, with pumpkin picking and hay rides in October and even having a Christmas tree lighting in December with a choir competition for local high schools.
“We want to bring people here year round and add to the whole shopping experience,” he added.
Customers can plan on seeing Aqueduct Flea Market vendors at BKF, especially those selling items conducive to the seaside atmosphere. From a vendor selling jewelry made out of seashells to other novelty items, Walker said customers will be able to take part in a “shopping experience like no other.”
BKF will be open to the public Friday through Sunday in June. For more information, visit bkfestival.com. – Alexa Mae Asperin
