City Council Member Julissa Ferreras recently teamed up with world middleweight championship boxer Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez for a round-table discussion with various local organizations regarding programs to stop domestic violence. Ferreras stated that Martinez-who is an outspoken advocate against domestic violence- has visited women’s shelters around the country, meeting and supporting victims of abuse. “Domestic violence is not just a ‘women’s issue’,” Ferreras said. “Men are crucial to the movement to stop domestic violence and create safer communities for women and children.”
