After a relatively mild winter in the city, Queens got dusted with anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of snow early on Saturday, January 21. Even with the light accumulation, Mayor Michael Bloomberg made sure not to take any chances with preparedness as the city placed close to 1,800 sanitation workers on duty with snow removal equipment. Salt spreaders were also deployed to stay ahead of the storm, which measured 4.3 inches in Central Park.
