Subway Shutdowns to Cramp Commute

Prepare For Weekend, Late Night Delays

Traveling between Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan by subway will be more difficult for straphangers this weekend and during overnight hours next week as MTA New York City Transit plans to shut down parts of several local subway lines for repairs, weather permitting.

Shuttle buses will replace L train service between Broadway Junction and Eighth Avenue beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday morning, Feb. 27. The M train- which normally operates as a shuttle between Metropolitan Avenue and Myrtle Avenue-Broadway-will be extended to 57th Street in Manhattan for much of Saturday and Sunday to provide an alternate route for riders heading west.

The L train shutdown coincides with the ongoing disruption of weekend service on the 7 line between Queensboro Plaza and Times Square, which will once again be out of service between 12:01 a.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Monday. For service between Queens and Manhattan, 7 train riders can transfer to the N train at either Queensboro Plaza or Times Square.

As a result of this shutdown, the Hunters Point Avenue and Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue stations on the 7 line will be closed. Free shuttle buses will be provided to connect 7 train riders from Queensboro Plaza to the stations as well as at Court Square-23rd Street and Queens Plaza, where E train service is available.

The MTA’s Fastrack program for overnight repairs on the B, D, F and M lines in Manhattan-which will require the closure of all four lines between 14th Street and 57th Street on Monday, Feb. 27, through Friday, Mar. 2, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.- will also affect service on the F and M lines in Queens.

Service on the M line between Myrtle Avenue-Broadway in Brooklyn and 71st-Continental Avenue in Forest Hills will end early on Monday through Thursday. Each evening, the last Forest Hills-bound train will depart Myrtle Avenue-Broadway at 9:54 p.m., while the last Middle Villagebound M train will depart 71st-Continental Avenues at 9:35 p.m. M trains will operate their normal late-night shuttle service between Metropolitan Avenue and Myrtle Avenue-Broadway.

To supplement the lost M train service in northwestern Queens, E trains will operate local service between Queens Plaza and 71st-Continental Avenue on Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. until midnight, stopping at 36th Street, Steinway Street, 46th Street, Northern Boulevard, 65th Street, Elmhurst Avenue, Grand Avenue, Woodhaven Boulevard, 63rd Drive and 67th Avenue.

Meanwhile, F trains will run on the E line between Roosevelt Avenue and West Fourth Street on Monday through Friday from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. During this period, Q trains will run on the F line between 57th Street and 21st Street-Queensbridge, making stops at the Roosevelt Island and Lexington Avenue-63rd Street stations along the way.
