A northeast Queens lawmaker will be hosting a community workshop this weekend to help residents benefit from a state tax exemption program.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, state Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D-Fresh Meadows) will open her 159-16 Union Tpke. district office to the public for a STAR Program workshop and registration drive. Residents will be able to file with the state Taxation and Finance Department as well as the city Finance Department to determine if they are eligible for tax relief, Rozic said.
Under new state legislation, all state homeowners receiving STAR exemptions must register with the state in order to receive the same exemption in 2014 and subsequent years, the lawmaker said. Residents have until the end of this year to file and those who fail to do so risk losing the tax benefits. Representatives from the city Department of Taxation and Finance as well as the city Finance Department will be on hand.
For more information, residents can contact Rozic’s office at 718-820-0241.
