A Rockaway church still recovering from Sandy sustained more damage when an SUV slammed into its wall earlier today, according to published reports.
The driver, a 49-year-old man from Brooklyn, was allegedly heading down Beach Channel Drive around 3 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into Arverne Pilgrim Church, destroying one of its walls.
“It is an amazing occurrence because we are now trying to recover from Sandy and everything was gut out due to Sandy and now we have to start the process all over again,” the church’s pastor, Dennis Loncke, told CBS New York.
The driver has reportedly been charged with driving without a license.
