Beginning Friday, two of the three southbound lanes heading into Queens will be closed overnight for work on the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge.
After the new work zone is established, motorists who plan to exit onto the 14th Avenue ramp must stay in the right lane when driving over the bridge. This traffic pattern will be in effect for about six weeks.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Department of Bridges and Tunnels said the lane shutdowns will be in effect from 11 p.m. Friday into Saturday, May 10, and 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, May 12 into Tuesday, May 13.
All work will depend on good weather.
A movable barrier will maximize lane capacity during peak traffic times with three lanes to the Bronx from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and three lanes into Queen from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on weekends.
The construction is part of a $109 million Queens approach project on the bridge.
