Fighting Cancer Step by Step In M.v.

Close to $200,000 was raised for cancer research and treatment during the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life at Middle Village’s Juniper Valley Park last Saturday and Sunday, June 21-22. Approximately 81 teams comprised of relatives, friends, classmates and/or co-workers continuously circled the Brennan Field running track during the fund-raiser that began late Saturday afternoon and continued into the next morning. Those who are or have battled cancer got the relay started with their “Survivors’ Lap,” as shown in the top left photo. The event included assorted games and entertainment as participants camped out alongside the track. During the evening, volunteers lit luminaria bags around the course in tribute or in memory of cancer patients.
