DANIELJ. CONLIN died on Sunday, July 20, at the age of 85. He was the
husband of the late Mildred M. Conlin, loving father of John S. Conlin,
Carol Conlin and Diane Conlin and cherished grandfather of Jake, Kyle,
Cole andAbbey. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War
II. AMass of Christian Burial will be offered this morning, Thursday, July
24, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Woodside, followed by interment at
Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, under the direction of Papavero Funeral
Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth.

MICHAEL L. CIRONE died on Sunday, July 20, in Houston, Tx. at the
age of 91. He was the husband of the late Rose Cirone, loving father of
MaryAnne Stoner and Michael P. Cirone, father-in-law of David and Ginny,
cherished grandfather of Christopher and Celina and great-grandfather of
Caleb and Chase. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World
War II. AMass of Christian Burial will be offered this morning, Thursday,
July 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Paola Church, East Williamsburg,
followed by interment at St. John Cemetery, Middle Village, under the
direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth.

GRETA BESMANN died on Wednesday, July 9, in Little Creek, Tenn. at
the age of 92. Mrs. Besmann was born in Lodz, Poland, on September 21,
1921, and raised in Vienna, Austria, as the daughter of an affluent doctor.
When the Nazi regime took power in 1938, she was forced to leave
school and was never able to complete her education. She and her parents
escaped to the United States in 1939 and settled in Brooklyn, with the help
of her cousin, famed clarinetist, Benny Goodman, and his sister, Ethel, who
remained Greta’s close friend.
As a young refugee in the U.S., Greta had to work as a factory “floor
girl” for a few dollars a day. Later on she worked for many years as a
bookkeeping secretary and in other clerical jobs. She was an active member
of Young Israel of Sunnyside and lived in the Sunnyside community for
more than 60 years.
At age 90 she joined her family in Knoxville, Tenn., where she was a
member of Heska Amuna Synagogue. She was preceded in death by her
beloved husband, Siegfried Besmann.
She is survived by her son, Ted Besmann; daughter-in-law, Wendy
Besmann; grandchildren, Anna and David Besmann; cousins, Susan and
Harvey Mayerowitz of New Jersey; cousins, Judit Turnheim and Roni

Ashkenazi of Yahud, Israel; and many other Israeli cousins of the Turnheim,
Ashkenazi, and Stern families. Services were offered on Friday, July 11, at
New Jewish Cemetery, Knoxville.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Besmann
Fund for Social Justice and Spiritual Enrichment, Knoxville Jewish

WILLIAM GEORGE BEUTHER of Ridgewood died on Thursday, July 3,
at the age of 80. He was the loving father of Darlene, Karen and William Jr.,
devoted grandfather of Raymond, Ethan and Christie and dear brother of
Joyce, Arlene and Joan. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Pancras
Church, Glendale, followed by interment at St. John Cemetery, Middle
Village, under the direction of Schwille Funeral Home, 66-32 Myrtle Ave.,
Glendale.

ANN FERRARA died on Wednesday, July 16, at the age of 88. She was the
wife of the late Angelo Ferrara, loving mother of Thomas Ferrara, Joseph Ferrara,
Diane Ferrara and the late Carol Samaniego, cherished grandmother of Lisa,
Allison, Natasha, Adam, Joseph, Bryan, Michael and Jill, great-grandmother of
Dylan, Kambrey, Ethan, Caitlin, Taylor, Caitlyn, John, Alexis, Greyson, Claire,
Michael, Brian, Brynlee and Alyssa and dear sister of Rev. John Filippelli. A
Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, July 21, at St. Mary’s Church,
Woodside, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton,
L.I., under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth.

EDDIE KUNKEL died on Friday, July 18, at the age of 26. He was the
beloved son of Francine A. and Edmund Kunkel Sr., loving brother of
Annemarie Kunkel, cherished grandson of Maria and the late Salvatore
Ottomanelli and Leo and Helga Kunkel and dear nephew of Jerry Ottomanelli,
Michael Ottomanelli, Frank Ottomanelli and Rudy Kunkel. He is also survived
by many loving cousins and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered
on Wednesday, July 23, at St. Mary’s Church, Woodside, followed by
interment at St. John Cemetery, Middle Village, under the direction of
Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth.

MARIA GRIGORE of Glendale died on Friday, July 18, at the age of 94. A
native of Bucharest, Romania, she was the wife of the late Stelian, devoted
mother of Llana Dumitru and dear sister of Ana Pulu. She is also survived by
one grandchild and four great-grandchildren. Services were offered at Morton
Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Ave., Ridgewood, by Rev.
Ionut Preda, followed by interment at All Faiths Cemetery, Middle Village.

VASILE MITROFAN of Ridgewood died on Thursday, July 17, at the age of
57. A native of Bosanci, Romania, he was the beloved husband of Zinica and
devoted father of Gheorghe Mitrofan. Services were offered at Morton Funeral

EILEEN C. SAVARESE of Ridgewood died on Tuesday, July 15, at the age
of 72. Anative of Brooklyn, she was the devoted mother of John Savarese and
dear sister of Kathleen Lewicki, Peter Ward, Jimmy Ward and Thomas Ward.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

91. A native of Chilia-Veche, Romania, she was the devoted mother of Doru

ELSA SCHRECK of Woodhaven died on Sunday, July 20, at the age of 78.
A native of Vinkovci, Yugoslavia, she was the beloved wife of John Schreck,
devoted mother of John Schreck, Lillian Freemann and Daniel Schreck and
dear sister of Paul Baumgartner and Peter Baumgartner. She is also survived
by 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were offered at

by Rev. Edwin Waldvogel, followed by interment at Maple Grove Cemetery,
