The Jamaica woman whose husband killed her along with her two young daughters in January, filed a domestic-incident report months earlier, saying he might murder her, but the warning was overlooked because it was never translated, according to the New York Post.
After cops visited her home in May, Deisy Garcia filled out the state-mandated report in Spanish claiming that her husband, Miguel Mejia-Ramos, had assaulted her, the Post reported.
In the report, Garcia wrote that she feared her husband and believed he “was going to kill her as well as their kids because she loved them so much,” sources told the Post.
She also filed a report in November, which was never translated, the publication said. It is NYPD policy to have all reports translated into English, according to the Post.
Mejia-Ramos, 29, is accused of killing his 21-year-old wife and their children, Daniela Mejia, 2, and Yaslin Mejia, 1, inside of their Sutphin Boulevard apartment sometime between Jan. 18 and Jan. 19, according to prosecutors. Each victim had multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
He allegedly came home Saturday night after drinking beer at a friend’s house, and went through his wife’s phone and Facebook account , where he found a photo of her and another man, prosecutors said. Mejia-Ramos then allegedly snapped and killed his wife, then fatally stabbed his daughters after first hugging and kissing them and asking for their “forgiveness.”
District Attorney Richard Brown reportedly said Mejia-Ramos killed his girls because he didn’t have car seats to take them with him after committing the crime. Mejia-Ramos was reportedly heading to Mexico when was caught in Texas.
Mejia-Ramos has been charged with first-degree and second-degree murder, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the killings.
