Meng elected vice chair of Democratic National Committee

By TimesLedger

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Flushing) was unanimously elected vice chair of the Democratic National Committee after the convention ended in Philadelphia.

Meng, who is in her second term, is the first Asian American member of Congress from New York, the only representative of Asian descent in the Northeast and the first woman from Queens elected to the House since Geraldine Ferraro, who served from 1978 to 1984.

“Democrats have an ambitious and robust agenda that includes such critical items as immigration reform, gun safety legislation, helping middle-class families and much more,” she said.

Before Meng was elected to Congress, she served in the state Assembly.

The 6th Congressional District covers Bayside, Douglaston, Flushing, Whitestone, Little Neck, Jamaica Estates and Corona.
