Suspect who shot a man at a Jamaica intersection on New Year’s night at large

Detectives are looking for the perpetrator who shot a 25-year-old man in Jamaica on Monday night.

Law enforcement sources said the shooting occurred at 8 p.m. on Jan. 1 at the corner of Sutphin Boulevard and Jamaica Avenue.

According to authorities, the victim was standing at the location when the gunman approached him from behind and opened fire, striking the victim in the right shoulder. The suspect, whom police described as a black man, fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Officers from the 103rd Precinct and EMS units responded to the incident. Paramedics brought the victim to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Police sources said the motive for the shooting remains unknown.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation continues.
